An exciting opportunity arose for Infestation to invest in yet another Cape Town-based project, this time in the form of the newly opened City Walk, an initiative of the Cape Town Partnership, the Big 7 and the City of Cape Town.
Starting in the Company’s Gardens, continuing down St George’s Mall to Waterkant Street, and up the Fan Walk to St Andrew’s Square, the City Walk connects significant places and offerings in the urban heart of Cape Town through storytelling, wayfinding, public art, walking tours and retail offerings to bring our public spaces to life.
Involved right from the beginning when the strategy was still being formed, Infestation had the opportunity to create the brand, illustrate the map, and produce launch collateral in the city’s community newspaper Molo, for this exciting new project.
The trick was to illustrate elements from the Walk itself – places of interest, museums, public spaces and public art – that would be instantly recognisable by the viewer. These illustrations then formed the basis of the brand language. The mapping interface knits together features of the actual location and useful information, keeping the user engaged throughout.
