The Southern African Sustainable Textile and Apparel Cluster (SASTAC) is the first of its kind in South Africa. The SASTAC initiative brings together the entire Textile and Apparel Industry value chain, national government, organized labor, consumer organisations, service providers and dedicated cluster management. All are committed to improving the capacity and competitiveness of industry in a sustainable manner.
Infestation was asked to come on board to steer the creation of the face of this new organization- from brand workshops to strategy to design. Being chosen to work with SASTAC from the very beginning gave us the unique chance to develop a partnership in the long journey of establishing and maintaining a brand.
The first steps in this journey were to hold workshops where we figured out what the SASTAC brand should be identified as. It was determined important that we develop a brand that communicates complete trust and has integrity at its core. The brand should be perceived by its audience to be responsible, reliable and transparent and communicate the full system of sustainability.
The SASTAC brand should also be perceived as an empowering brand for the next generation- youthful, active and independent. Lastly, the brand should be conveyed as honest, straightforward, innovative, and proudly South African.
The outcome of the workshops was to establish a brand that identified with the core values and goals of SASTAC. We created a logo that represents leadership, intelligence and sustainability among other things. We feel strongly that our branding work will help to establish SASTAC as a unique, meaningful and successful South African organization. We look forward to our continued work with SASTAC in the future.
