Building on our successful stable of recipe books from previous years, 2013 saw us add four newbies to the shelves. Scrumptious recipes that tantalize the tastebuds and gorgeous images that had us foodies salivating from 8:30 in the morning, were part of the accepted torture regime when working on one of these recipe books.
Herman Lensing – food editor of local Afrikaans magazine Sarie – brought out his first book entitled ‘Voorskoot’, a clever little number that magics up seasonal menus for every mood and occasion. We matched the design of his book perfectly to fit his wonderfully friendly and inviting personality, with which he was delighted.
Books two and three were next: ‘7de Laan Celebrates’ and ‘7de Laan Vier Fees’ the much anticipated follow up to the hugely successful recipe books from three years ago. The design picks up on elements from the 2010 books and expands the graphic language to perfectly captivate the viewers of this wildly popular soapie. It was designed and produced in English and Afrikaans and showcases all the menus from parties and festivities that happen in ‘the Laan’.
Lastly, Kokkedoor, a popular Afrikaans reality tv show, has produced a cookbook of the same name to recreate the delectable recipes produced on the show. The design is reminiscent of the small Afrikaans town in which it was filmed, and picks up on the rustic overtones and nostalgic decor from the set.
We predict there are going to be a good number of recipes books in stockings this Christmas to add value to any budding chef’s repertoire!
