The City of Cape Town asked Infestation to design a stand for the Design Indaba Expo 2015 which would represent their vision on design in the city. They wanted to communicate a three-part message:
1. What was initiated by winning the title of Wold Design Capital 2014 and what the legacy is.
2. An adoption of design thinking by the City of Cape Town when providing services.
3. The city’s rich “Design Eco-System” that supports and develops all its interconnected parts, from student to institution.
The positioning of the stand at the expo, and the triangular floorspace, presented its own set of challenges, concerning traffic and flow. We solved these through the clever use of various heights of elements on the stand floor, making certain elements transparent as well as creating interactive areas, where the visitor can engage. Show goers were very very keen to leave their mark and to interact with the stand as a whole. The strings were broken down at the end of each day and the opportunity would then arise to recreate the connections the following day.
